Hello, my name is Melissa Richard and welcome to my Physician Assistant Student (PA-S) online portfolio! This site will serve as a culmination of my works, achievements, and many highlights of my burgeoning didactic and clinical experience as a PA student at CUNY York College.
Throughout my time as a PA-S I have come to learn a lot about medicine. My diverse background working in medicine, art, tutoring, leadership and special education have also equipped me with a unique perspective during this journey. Whether that be the art of communicating with patients and colleagues, perfecting my study methods or clinging to new and exciting opportunities, no experience has been taken for granted. I have also become increasingly familiar with medical databases and research platforms, such as UpToDate and Pub Med. I have also become well versed with my lecture materials and text resources such as the DeGowin’s and Bates’ physical examination guides. I have interviewed and examined countless patients. Furthermore, I have learned from and interacted with healthcare professionals of numerous backgrounds in different facilities.
Ultimately, my time in PA school thus far has not only taught me about the magnitude of medicine, but also about the magnitude of my own capacity to learn, evolve and serve others. I am building a robust foundation of knowledge, skills and qualities that will fortify my ability to lead and guide others. I aspire to bring a mixture of compassion, creativity, courage, and intelligence to my career as a healthcare provider. I have an ever-increasing passion for taking care of patients and am open and excited to whichever specialty that may lead me into.
